Effective 22 August 2026 · Applies to the MatricBase Android app and matricbase.co.za
The short version
MatricBase is free for South African Grade 12 learners, parents, and educators — no account required.
We're not affiliated with the Department of Basic Education, NSFAS, or any university. MatricBase is an independent, third-party platform.
APS scores, closing dates, fees, and admission requirements can change. Always confirm with the actual university, college, or bursary provider before relying on them — see Section 6, Disclaimer.
Past papers, memos, and NSC curriculum content belong to the Department of Basic Education — we organise and host access to them, we don't own them.
Tools like the APS Calculator, Course Advisor, and Compare Universities are study aids, not official admission decisions.
By downloading, installing, or using the MatricBase Android app, or by visiting matricbase.co.za, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please don't use MatricBase. MatricBase is developed and maintained by Siyanda Nonkala, trading as DSK Nexus ("we", "us", "our").
These terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what information MatricBase collects and how it's used.
2. Use of MatricBase
MatricBase is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use by South African Grade 12 (matric) learners, their parents/guardians, and educators. You don't need to create an account to use the app or the website — this includes tools like the APS Calculator, Course Connect, Course Advisor, the career guidance quiz, Compare Universities, and the bursary and prospectus directories.
Many MatricBase users are minors. If you are under 18, you should have your parent or guardian's permission to use MatricBase and agree to these terms; parents and guardians are welcome to review the app, the website, and this policy on a learner's behalf.
You agree to use MatricBase only for its intended purpose — accessing study material, exam preparation tools, and admissions/career guidance resources — and not in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the app, the website, or interfere with anyone else's use of them.
3. Independence and non-affiliation
MatricBase is independently developed and does not represent any government department, educational institution, or funding organisation. MatricBase is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Department of Basic Education, NSFAS, or any other government entity, university, college, or bursary provider referenced on this site.
4. Content and ownership
All NSC past examination papers, memoranda, and related curriculum materials made available through MatricBase remain the property of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) of South Africa, or their respective copyright holders. MatricBase does not claim ownership of these documents — we provide access to and organise publicly available past papers to make them easier to find and study from.
University, college, bursary provider, and employer names and logos shown across the site (for example, in the Bursary Finder, Compare Universities, and provincial university pages) are the trademarks of their respective owners, used only to identify and describe the institutions, programmes, or bursaries they relate to. Their appearance on MatricBase does not imply any endorsement, partnership, or affiliation with MatricBase or DSK Nexus unless separately stated.
The MatricBase app and website — including their design, branding, and original tools (such as the APS Calculator, Course Advisor, Course Connect, and the career guidance quiz) — are the property of DSK Nexus and may not be copied or redistributed without permission.
5. Third-party links and services
MatricBase links out to third-party websites for certain features — for example, "Apply" links and prospectus downloads for universities, colleges, and bursaries, and past paper/memo files hosted by the DBE or other sources. We don't control these external sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or their own terms and privacy practices. Always verify application requirements and deadlines directly with the relevant institution or funder.
The app and website also depend on third-party infrastructure to function, including our backend database provider and content delivery networks used to load fonts and libraries. We're not responsible for outages, delays, or data loss caused by the failure of services we don't operate.
6. Disclaimer
MatricBase brings together publicly available information about South African universities, colleges, bursaries, application fees, and admission requirements to help learners plan ahead. This information is provided for general guidance only and does not constitute official admission, funding, or academic advice.
APS scores, admission point calculations, closing dates, application fees, and programme availability change from year to year and can be updated by institutions at any time without notice to us.
Results from the APS Calculator, Course Advisor, Compare Universities tool, and career guidance quiz are study aids based on the data we've compiled — they are not official eligibility checks, admission offers, or guarantees of acceptance.
Bursary details (amounts, eligibility criteria, closing dates) are summarised from publicly available sources and may not reflect the latest terms set by the funder.
Always confirm APS cut-offs, closing dates, fees, and admission requirements directly with the university, college, or bursary provider before applying. MatricBase is a planning tool, not a substitute for official sources.
7. No guarantees
MatricBase is provided "as is" and "as available". While we work to keep papers, links, and information accurate and up to date, we make no guarantees that:
Paper, memo, prospectus, or application links will always be available or load correctly;
The app or website will be free of bugs, errors, or interruptions;
Any particular feature (APS Calculator, Course Advisor, Compare Universities, bursary listings, etc.) will remain available indefinitely or be free of inaccuracies.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MatricBase and its developer, Siyanda Nonkala / DSK Nexus, are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or website — including but not limited to exam outcomes, missed application deadlines, rejected applications, or decisions made based on information provided on MatricBase.
9. Prohibited use
You may not:
Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app or website, beyond what's permitted by applicable law;
Redistribute, resell, sublicense, or repackage MatricBase or its content for commercial purposes;
Use MatricBase to violate any applicable law or the rights of the Department of Basic Education, university/college/bursary trademark owners, or other content owners.
Any of the above requires our prior written permission.
10. Termination
You can stop using MatricBase at any time by uninstalling the app or simply not visiting the website. We may suspend or discontinue all or part of the app or website, or restrict access for anyone who breaches these terms, at our discretion and without prior notice — for example, to protect the service, comply with the law, or respond to misuse. Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (such as ownership, disclaimer, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time as MatricBase changes. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the app or website after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
