By downloading, installing, or using the MatricBase Android app, or by visiting matricbase.co.za, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please don't use MatricBase. MatricBase is developed and maintained by Siyanda Nonkala, trading as DSK Nexus ("we", "us", "our").
These terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what information MatricBase collects and how it's used.
2. Closed beta and waitlist
MatricBase is currently in closed beta and is not yet publicly available on Google Play or the App Store. While this is the case, matricbase.co.za collects email addresses through a waitlist form solely for testing purposes — to notify you when MatricBase launches publicly and, where relevant, to invite you to participate in beta testing. By submitting your email address, you agree that it may be used for these purposes. See our Privacy Policy for more detail on how waitlist data is handled.
Features, screenshots, launch dates, and availability described on this website may change before public launch.
3. Use of the app
MatricBase is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use by South African Grade 12 (matric) learners, their parents/guardians, and educators. You don't need to create an account to use it.
Many MatricBase users are minors. If you are under 18, you should have your parent or guardian's permission to use the app and agree to these terms; parents and guardians are welcome to review the app and this policy on a learner's behalf.
You agree to use MatricBase only for its intended purpose — accessing study material, exam preparation tools, and related educational resources — and not in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the app or interfere with anyone else's use of it.
4. Independence and non-affiliation
MatricBase is independently developed and does not represent any government department, educational institution, or funding organisation. MatricBase is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Department of Basic Education, NSFAS, or any other government entity.
5. Content and ownership
All NSC past examination papers, memoranda, and related materials made available through MatricBase remain the property of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) of South Africa, or their respective copyright holders. MatricBase does not claim ownership of these documents — we provide access to and organise publicly available past papers to make them easier to find and study from.
Bursary provider, university, and employer names and logos shown in the app (for example, in the Bursary Finder) are the trademarks of their respective owners, used only to identify and describe the bursaries, institutions, or programmes they relate to. Their appearance in MatricBase does not imply any endorsement, partnership, or affiliation with MatricBase or DSK Nexus unless separately stated.
The MatricBase app itself — including its design, branding, original tools (such as the APS calculator), and underlying code — is the property of DSK Nexus and may not be copied or redistributed without permission.
6. Third-party links and services
MatricBase links out to third-party websites for certain features — for example, "Apply" links for bursaries and university programmes, and past paper/memo files hosted by the DBE or other sources. We don't control these external sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or their own terms and privacy practices. Always verify application requirements and deadlines directly with the relevant institution or funder.
The app also depends on third-party infrastructure to function — including our backend database provider (Supabase) and content delivery networks used to load fonts and libraries. We're not responsible for outages, delays, or data loss caused by the failure of services we don't operate.
7. No guarantees
MatricBase is provided "as is" and "as available". While we work to keep papers, links, and features accurate and up to date, we make no guarantees that:
Paper or memo links will always be available or load correctly;
The app will be free of bugs, errors, or interruptions;
Any particular feature (APS calculator, eligibility checker, bursary listings, etc.) will remain available indefinitely or be free of inaccuracies.
The APS calculator and university eligibility checker are study aids, not official admission decisions. Always confirm minimum requirements directly with the university or institution you're applying to.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MatricBase and its developer, Siyanda Nonkala / DSK Nexus, are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — including but not limited to exam outcomes, missed application deadlines, or decisions made based on information provided in the app.
9. Prohibited use
You may not:
Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, beyond what's permitted by applicable law;
Redistribute, resell, sublicense, or repackage the app or its content for commercial purposes;
Use the app to violate any applicable law or the rights of the Department of Basic Education, bursary/university trademark owners, or other content owners.
Any of the above requires our prior written permission.
10. Termination
You can stop using MatricBase at any time by uninstalling the app. We may suspend or discontinue all or part of the app, or restrict access for anyone who breaches these terms, at our discretion and without prior notice — for example, to protect the service, comply with the law, or respond to misuse. Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (such as ownership and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time as MatricBase changes. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
